Recordz vs Groovv
Groovv and Recordz are both new in 2026, both on iPhone and Android, and both use Discogs data. Groovv is a collection app: scan a record in, grade it, log its plays and see what it's worth. Recordz is a discovery app for records you don't own yet. This comparison is based on public App Store and Google Play listings and Groovv's own website and FAQ. We make Recordz, so weigh this accordingly.
So, Groovv or Recordz?
The case for Groovv
If you want a good-looking, careful catalog of your vinyl, Groovv is built for it. Scan a barcode or photograph a cover and it identifies the pressing, with who pressed, mastered and cut it, plus matrix and runout data. A step-by-step assistant grades media and sleeve against the Goldmine standard, and each record gets an estimated value from Discogs sales for its pressing and condition. You can log plays and cleans, track stylus hours in a gear log, and flick through your shelves in its Crate Flick view. The free tier covers up to 100 records, and Pro starts at $1.99 a month. You don't need a Discogs account, though you can import from one.
The case for Recordz
Recordz is for the records that aren't on your shelf. You swipe through a feed of real Discogs releases, personalized by the genres, styles and eras you choose, and hear a preview where one exists. Saves sync both ways with your Discogs wantlist and collection. It adds a directory of 275 independent record stores in 16 cities and 14 curated lists.
The short version: Groovv to catalog, grade and value what you own, Recordz to find what's next. Neither tries to do the other's job well.

Where Groovv shines
Grading done properly
Groovv's grading assistant walks you through media and sleeve condition on the Goldmine scale, and on Pro keeps a dated grading history with photos. Values then follow the grade. Recordz has no grading tools at all; if condition matters to you, read our guide on how to grade vinyl records and use an app like Groovv.
It looks after what you own
Play and clean history, listening streaks, a gear log that estimates hours on your stylus, and a PDF Collection Report for insurance. These are collection-care tools, and Recordz doesn't offer them.
A generous free tier and cheaper Pro
Free covers 100 records, barcode scanning, 10 AI cover scans, the full grading assistant and value estimates. Pro is $1.99 a month, $12.99 a year or $29.99 once. Recordz's free tier stops at 10 saves, and Recordz Pro is $19.99 a year.
Your Discogs collection stays untouched
Groovv imports from Discogs and its Sync button pulls in additions and removals, but it never writes back. If you want a second, independent catalog without any risk to your Discogs data, that's a feature. Recordz writes changes back to Discogs.
Discovery through real collectors
Taste Match scores how much your collection overlaps with other collectors' and points you to records worth digging for from crates like yours. It's discovery through people rather than an algorithm, and profiles stay private until you opt in.
Where Recordz is different
A feed of records you've never seen
Groovv's discovery starts from other people's collections. Recordz's starts from the Discogs catalog: a For You feed from the genres, styles and eras you pick, plus Most Wanted and New Additions, one release at a time. Each card shows year, label and marketplace price and links to the Discogs listing.
Preview before you save
Each card has a preview where one exists, from release videos, and for record-store stock, the store's own audio.
Saves that land in Discogs
If Discogs is your main catalog, Recordz keeps it current. Save a record and it's added to your Discogs wantlist; add one to your collection and it's added on Discogs. Groovv's sync is one-way by design.
Shops, lists and iPad
Recordz maps 275 independent record stores in 16 cities, such as Barcelona and Buenos Aires, and publishes 14 lists like deep house. It also runs on iPad, and you can browse records, artists, labels and lists on the web. Groovv's App Store listing is iPhone only.
Compare the plan, not just the price
Groovv pricing
Free for up to 100 records, a 25-record wantlist and a Discogs import of up to 100 records. Groovv Pro costs $1.99 a month, $12.99 a year or $29.99 for Lifetime, which its terms describe as access for as long as Groovv operates. Pro removes the limits and adds analytics, grading history, custom tags, CSV export and unlimited Discogs sync. A PDF Collection Report is $6.99 on its own or included with Lifetime.
Recordz pricing
Free to download, with 10 free saves; inviting friends earns more. Recordz Pro costs $2.99 a month or $19.99 a year. It removes the save limit and adds playlist sharing, new-release alerts for artists and labels you follow, and a public profile with a Pro badge. The Discover tab and Chromecast are free. A Discogs account is free and optional; you only need one for sync.
Recordz vs Groovv FAQ
Is Recordz a collection app like Groovv?
No. Recordz shows and syncs your Discogs collection and wantlist, but it doesn't grade records, log plays or produce collection reports. For cataloging and condition, Groovv is the better tool.
Does Groovv sync with Discogs?
One way. Groovv imports your Discogs collection and pulls in changes when you sync, but its FAQ says it never modifies your Discogs collection. Recordz syncs collection and wantlist changes both ways.
Are both on Android?
Yes. Groovv is on the App Store and Google Play, and your account carries across. Recordz is on Google Play and on the App Store for iPhone and iPad.
Which is cheaper?
Groovv. Pro is $12.99 a year or $29.99 once, against $19.99 a year for Recordz Pro, and its free tier is larger.
Can I use Groovv and Recordz together?
Yes. A common split is Groovv to catalog and grade what you own and Recordz to find what's next. If you connect both to Discogs, records you add to your collection in Recordz reach Discogs, and Groovv's Sync can pull them in.
Can I sell records in either app?
No. Both point you to Discogs for selling. Recordz also links to record stores in its directory.
