What are the best free vinyl apps?

The Discogs app is the best free vinyl app: it has no paid tier and no collection limit, and it includes the full database, your collection and wantlist, collection value and the marketplace. A handful of smaller apps also list no in-app purchases at all: RunOut and Digs for checking your Discogs collection in a shop, SnapVinyl as an alternative Discogs client, and Vinyl Swiper for browsing record-store stock. Most other vinyl apps are free to download but limited. Groovv stops at 100 records, MusicBuddy at 50 albums and Recordz at 10 saves. CLZ Music isn't free at all after its 7-day trial.

Discogs: best free app overall

Best for: everyone.

The official Discogs app costs nothing to use. You can search the database, scan barcodes, track your collection and wantlist, check your collection's value and buy from sellers worldwide. You only pay when you buy a record, and sellers pay Discogs fees when they sell. It's also on Android and the web. With 67,059 ratings averaging 4.8, it's by far the most-rated app in this guide.

RunOut, Digs and SnapVinyl: best free extras for Discogs users

Best for: Discogs users who want a faster or offline view of their collection without paying.

RunOut searches Discogs by catalog number, barcode or text and puts records you own first, so you don't buy a duplicate in a shop. It needs a personal Discogs API token and is also a free web app. Digs keeps your whole collection offline and says it has no tracking or ads. SnapVinyl edits your collection and wantlist, scans barcodes or reads text on a sleeve, and translates release notes. None list any in-app purchases. RunOut and Digs launched in 2026 and had no ratings on September 30; SnapVinyl had 60.

Groovv: best free tier for a small collection

Best for: collections under 100 records, on iPhone or Android.

Groovv's free tier includes up to 100 records, a 25-record wantlist, barcode scanning, a few AI cover scans, value estimates, the full grading assistant and spin logging. Pro is $1.99 a month, $12.99 a year or $29.99 lifetime. It launched in 2026, so it has few ratings yet.

Spinstack and MusicBuddy: best if you'd rather pay once

Best for: people who avoid subscriptions.

Spinstack gives you every feature for 30 days, then keeps the collection, wantlist, spin log, search, barcode scanning and Last.fm scrobbling free. Pro, at $9.99 once, unlocks analytics, NFC tags, bulk scanning and more. MusicBuddy is fully featured up to 50 albums, then $9.99 once for unlimited storage, and doesn't need Discogs. Discographic's upgrades are also one-time purchases.

Vinyl Swiper and Recordz: free discovery

Best for: finding records you don't own yet.

Vinyl Swiper is the more generous free option: it lists no in-app purchases and needs no account. You swipe through stock from independent stores such as Rush Hour, Hardwax and Juno and hear each store's own preview. Recordz is free to download with 10 saves, and inviting friends earns more. Recordz Pro costs $2.99 a month or $19.99 a year and adds unlimited saves, playlist sharing, new-release alerts for artists and labels you follow, and a Pro profile badge; the Discover tab and Chromecast are free. Recordz syncs saves with your Discogs wantlist; see Recordz Pro and Recordz vs Vinyl Swiper.

Apps that are free to download but not free to use

Best for: knowing what you're signing up for.

CLZ Music describes itself as a paid subscription app at $1.99 a month or $19.99 a year, with a 7-day free trial. It's an established cataloger with its own database, but don't install it expecting a free tier. Record Scanner, VinylBox and Vinyl Record App are free to download, but their upgrades are subscriptions: Record Scanner sells unlimited use, and Vinyl Record App puts barcode and AI cover scanning in Premium. Their listings don't spell out the free limits, so check before you start a large import.
