Co-owned by Marion Carter and Pete Smolen, Ripete specialized in beach music compilations and reissue singles for shag dance enthusiasts, mainly in the southeastern U.S. The label also issued newer recordings by R&B artists such as The Drifters, The Clovers, and Maurice Williams & the Zodiacs. The label's compilations featured a mix of regional beach music recordings by artists like The Embers, Band Of Oz and The Entertainers, and R&B hits from the mid-1950s through the early 1980s by artists like Chairmen Of The Board and The Drifters, especially songs with swing-style back-beats suitable for Carolina shag dancing.
