Also known by it's shorter name Κ.ΣΥ.Μ.Ε. as well as without periods as ΚΣΥΜΕ, The Contemporary Music Research Center (KSYME-CMRC) was founded in Athens in 1979 by , and , with the aim of developing electro-acoustic music and sound practices in Greece. KSYME-CMRC has continued to conduct research and educational programs, as well as festivals and institutional collaborations, forging mutual ground between its Greek musical heritage and the pioneering musical archives and instruments it holds. The Center acquired the UPIC (a computerized musical composition tool, devised by Iannis Xenakis and developed to translate drawings and other visual data into sound via an electro-magnetic pen) in 1986. The Center is also the home of the EMS Synthi 100.
