About

Discos Orbe emerged in mid-1960s Bogotá as a pivotal manufacturing and recording arm within the independent Colombian music industry. Operating under the strategic control of Discos Bambuco[/u], Orbe provided pressing and production services that enabled smaller labels to compete with the dominant companies based in Medellín and Barranquilla. Discos Bambuco, founded around 1957 and initially conceived as a record store, expanded into a fully integrated phonographic enterprise by combining retail innovation with industrial capacity.

Orbe’s importance grew when it assumed the fabrication of releases associated with Estudio 15[/u], a youth-oriented label created in 1965 and closely linked to Radio 15, Colombia’s first radio station aimed exclusively at young audiences. Through Orbe, Discos Bambuco centralized the production of Nueva Ola, Ye-Yé, and Go-Go repertoires, attracting influential artists and shaping the soundscape of Colombian pop, beat & rock from in the mid-60's in the so-called "nueva ola" or first wave of balladists. The Orbe label, also held representation for Spanish and Argentine licenses.
