Cheb Hasni (الشاب حسني) was an Algerian raï singer from Gambetta, Oran. Born 1968-02-01 in Oran. Died 1994-09-29 in Oran. Regarded as "The king of sentimental music" and "The legend of raï music", his contribution to music made him one of the most celebrated Algerian artists of the late 20th century. Aged only 26, he was gunned down outside his home in Oran by members of the GIA Islamic fundamentalist terrorist group. He was the first raï singer to be assassinated in the Algerian civil war. He had released about 150 albums in 8 years.
