Indian guitarist from Kolkata, West Bengal. Originally a member of the late-1960s Calcutta college band High Noon, Tata met Ananda Shankar in 1970 when Shankar invited the group to play with him, leading Tata and High Noon to eventually become members of Ananda Shankar And His Orchestra. By the early 1980s, the orchestra was dissolved in favor of recorded music, as touring became more frequent. Tata then joined Usha Uthup as part of her backing band The Sound (4). Tata later became a teacher at Modern High School for Girls in Kolkata, and then a guitar instructor at Calcutta School of Music around 2002.
