He was born in Benares where he began his education in tabla, during 4 years, with Dr. Debabraa Bhattacharya, after under the brilliant guidance of the prestigious tabla Masters Late Pandit Kaviraj Ashutosh Battacharya, from the Benares Gharana. Actually he is taking talim of the world famous tabla teacher & player Pt. Shankar Ghose.
He has accompanied regularly, well known musicians including the great Maestros like Pandit Shyamal Chattopadaya (sitar), Pt. Buddhadev Das Gupta (sarod), Pt. Rajan & Sajan Mishra, Pt. Vishwa Mohan Bhatt (Mohan Vina), Pt. Tarun Battacharya (Santoor), Pt. Ronu Majumdar (Bansuri), S.G. Sachdev...

Based in Catalonia since 1990, he has been teaching and performing indian classical music throughout the country. Nowadays hi has a school in Barcelona: Tapan Musical Center.
Integrating himself with western contemporary music, he plays with different artists, contributing with an ethnic shade through the sounds of tabla.
He has recently formed the fusion group Om Tara Project, with which has introduced its first album, "Indojazz", which shows the feedback they have had jazz and Indian music through its history.
