About

Santino Fernandez, also known as Sonny Solace, was an American-Colombian singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist who resided in the heart of Virginia's Blue Ridge Mountains.

Born in Washington D.C. in 1980, he would shortly after move to Colombia, South America, where as a child he would grow up immersed in Andean culture, with music introduced to him early on as quite literally the food that drives life.

Growing up with a grandmother who would dance and sing all day long while cooking, cleaning, and taking care of his disabled grandfather, Sonny would be exposed to everything from Colombian folk music from the 1920's, to classic hits from the 60's all the way through the 80's, where everyone from The Beatles and Pink Floyd, to The Cure and Tears for Fears would leave a long-lasting imprint deep inside his soul as he would gravitate over the years to playing the keyboard, the guitar like his late father, the drums, and inevitably; given the era, vinyl DJ'ing.

Having become a devoted member of the 90's Rave culture, he would go on to make a name for himself in the Electro scene since 2002 after making a move back home to D.C. for some time, founding the legendary label Fundamental Bass Intelligence, and working alongside some of the most iconic names in the scene like Mandroid, Sbles3plex, and Supreme.ja.

In 2006, Sonny moved away to the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia, where he recorded in his home studio in the Shenandoah Valley, working on the shoegaze outfit Kay Nine, as well as various other projects until his death in 2024.
