About
BBC Combo (short for Bible Believing Christians Combo) was a Dutch Christian musical‐evangelistic ensemble active from the early 1960s (or thereabouts) onward, combining original songs with spoken word, sermons, and evangelistic messaging.
Nederlands Bijbelstudie Centrum
From its inception, BBC Combo was something of a novelty in the Christian music domain: their style, sound, lyrical language, and the integration of spoken word set them apart and also sometimes provoked critique.
Nederlands Bijbelstudie Centrum
The group’s repertoire was primarily original — lyrics were often penned by Johan Th. Bos, while musical settings were contributed by Gerard Brussel (an accomplished organist and guitarist). On occasion, compositions by Ab Klein Haneveld were also included.
Nederlands Bijbelstudie Centrum
Over its more than two decades of activity, membership (the group consistently numbered four members) underwent several changes, but the core of Bos and Klein Haneveld remained among the longest‐standing members.
Nederlands Bijbelstudie Centrum
BBC Combo functioned not merely as a musical act but more as a traveling evangelistic team. They often presented full programs combining songs and spoken segments, sometimes filling entire evenings, in venues ranging from churches, theaters, open‐air meetings, tents, to radio and television engagements, both in the Netherlands and abroad.
Nederlands Bijbelstudie Centrum
In 2025, the NBC / Bijbelstudie label released a two-CD retrospective titled “35 jaar later” (35 Years Later) (catalog MCD001), collecting old studio and live recordings as a commemoration of the group’s legacy.
